“For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,”
declares the Lord.
9 “As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.
10 As the rain and the snow
come down from heaven,
and do not return to it
without watering the earth
and making it bud and flourish,
so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater,
11 so is my word that goes out from my mouth:
It will not return to me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire
and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.
12 You will go out in joy
and be led forth in peace;
the mountains and hills
will burst into song before you,
and all the trees of the field
will clap their hands.
13 Instead of the thornbush will grow the juniper,
and instead of briers the myrtle will grow.
This will be for the Lord’s renown,
for an everlasting sign,
that will endure forever.”
These verses have circulating in my life through random conversations and messages at church the past couple months and let’s be honest, that normally means that the Lord is patiently trying to teach me something very specific! And let’s just press pause for like half a second. Isn’t it amazing how much love He has for us, that He is so willing to take the time to chase us continually with the truth that He knows will set us free?! My prayer is that I will ALWAYS stay in awe of this and that I will never be too busy to stop and listen.
In this passage where the Lord is speaking, there a few things that have really ministered to me recently:
- vs. 8 “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.” For me, when I look at my life, I find such comfort knowing that God DOESN’T work the way I do & that He DOESN’T think the way I think; that His ways and His plans are perfect – and mine are far from it. While in challenging or even devastating situations, I want to ultimately cling to this truth knowing that He has gone before me. Instead of pushing for my way, I want to get on board with what He is already working out.
- vs. 11 “…my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.” Nothing is ever wasted – my mistakes and all. His purpose always wins. This is something worth trusting in!
- vs. 12 “You will go out in joy, and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.” JOY & PEACE come from His purpose and that’s a reason for us all to celebrate!
- vs. 13b “This will be for the Lord’s renown, for an everlasting sign, that will endure forever.” Ultimately, it is all about Him. In our life, in past generations, and the generations of the future; for all of eternity, it is all about Him!
Something that I love about Scripture is that the Holy Spirit can use it to speak into our specific situations no matter how different they may be. This passage has hit home with me as of late (and I’ll get super specific about it in a future post!!), but I would love to hear how it has ministered to YOU. Feel free to share below or email me here.
I hope each of you have an amazing Independence Day Holiday!!!
